David Yarrow is one of the world's best-selling and most collectible photographers — a master of cinematic black-and-white imagery whose limited edition prints have set auction records at Sotheby's London and are held in private and institutional collections across Europe and North America. Samuel Owen Gallery is the exclusive authorized gallery for David Yarrow photography in Connecticut and Nantucket.
David Yarrow (b. 1966, Glasgow, Scotland) is one of the world's best-selling and most collectible photographers, renowned for his large-format, cinematic black-and-white photography. His immersive body of work spans wildlife, the American West, staged narrative scenes, and celebrated collaborations with supermodels and sports legends. Samuel Owen Gallery is the exclusive authorized gallery for David Yarrow photography in Connecticut and Nantucket, with locations in Greenwich, CT and Nantucket, MA.
Yarrow's career in photography began at the age of 20, when he captured the iconic image of Diego Maradona lifting the FIFA World Cup trophy at the 1986 World Cup Final in Mexico City — one of the most reproduced sports photographs of the twentieth century. After a successful career in finance, Yarrow returned to his true passion, establishing himself as a leading figure in contemporary fine art photography.
His early work focused on wildlife photography, documenting endangered species in some of the world's most remote and challenging environments. These images, characterized by their extraordinary intimacy and technical precision, brought him international recognition and laid the foundation for his reputation as a master storyteller. In recent years, Yarrow has pursued an ambitious personal anthology of the American West, creating elaborately staged narrative scenes that blend cinematic drama with fine art photography.
Yarrow's limited edition prints have achieved record-breaking results at auction. His image "Mankind," shot in South Sudan, sold for $75,000 at Sotheby's London in May 2017 — the highest price of 100 lots in the sale. In April 2018, "The Wolf of Main Street" sold for $100,000, setting a new record for a living photographer at auction. This was subsequently surpassed by "78 Degrees North," which achieved $110,000 — a testament to the sustained and growing demand for his work among serious collectors worldwide.
In 2016, Rizzoli New York published Yarrow's monograph "Wild Encounters," with a foreword written by HRH The Prince of Wales. The book was awarded Amazon's Art Book of the Year for 2017 and sold out two print runs. All of Yarrow's royalties from the book were donated to Tusk Trust, the leading British conservation organization focused on wildlife protection across Africa.
Deeply committed to philanthropy, Yarrow has collaborated with some of the world's most recognizable figures — including Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, and Erling Haaland — with a charitable component central to each project. Since 2018, more than $15 million has been raised through the sale of his work for causes spanning wildlife conservation, cancer research, and humanitarian relief. Yarrow serves as European Ambassador for Nikon and sits on the advisory board of Tusk Trust.
His work is held in private and institutional collections across Europe and North America and is regularly featured at major international art fairs. While his signature black-and-white imagery remains the cornerstone of his practice, Yarrow's expanding body of color photography has introduced his work to a new generation of collectors.
